Why Slabs and Stone Break the Clip Workflow

Two properties stone shares that ceramic doesn’t.

First, weight. A 1200×2400 gauged porcelain slab can weigh 80kg or more — it carries inertia into the mortar bed and keeps settling after you have walked away. Second, fragility. Marble and many granites crack under point impact, which is exactly what a mallet-and-wedge step delivers. Standard clip systems are built for ceramic that holds a hammer blow; slabs and stone need controlled screw tension that can be re-applied as the piece settles, and a lifter that keeps the piece from flexing on the way down.

Stone warps in nature, so set aside pieces out of tolerance; the substrate must be flat and true before a heavy piece lands on it.

Large notch and back-buttering for stone and slabs — a hollow under a 25kg piece becomes a crack later.

Lift and place with the suction cup

Carry the panel on the 100kg electric cup so it never flexes; lower it onto the bed in one movement.

Tension screw caps in two passes

Snug first, then full tension once the piece is seated — impact tools are out; this is twist, not hammer.

Re-tension, then remove after cure

Turn the caps again after the initial set, and back them off only when the adhesive has fully cured.

Why are standard clips not enough for slabs and stone?
A heavy slab or stone piece needs more pull-up force than a single-use clip delivers, and it needs to be re-tensioned as it settles — which clips cannot do. Screw-cap and spin systems tension in stages and are reused across the job.
What thickness of stone does this system handle?
The reusable leveler covers 5–20mm and the Spin Doctor 3–25mm (BM-D01), so stone and gauged porcelain up to about 25mm are covered. Beyond that is a specialty application — talk to us before quoting.
Do I need a suction cup to level slabs?
Not for small stone tile, but for panels you cannot carry and place without flexing — anything from about 1200×1200 up — yes. The electric cup lifts 100kg, and a flexed slab is how stone cracks during installation.
Can leveling fix warped natural stone?
No. Natural stone is rarely perfectly flat, and a leveling system fixes height differences between adjacent pieces — not stock that is warped out of tolerance. Select or flatten the pieces first.
