How the Tile Leveling System Calculator Works
- Measure your tiles — Enter the exact width and height in centimeters. Our formula accounts for tile size to determine optimal clip spacing.
- Enter project area — The total square meters of the surface you plan to tile. For multiple rooms, add them together.
- Check the placement drawing — The same planning baseline is shown for floors and walls; the selected clip system determines the actual edge positions. Record the approved model, positions and revision in the placement drawing XLSX template.
- Select joint width — Match the clip thickness to your desired grout joint width. Standard floor joints use 1.5–2.0mm clips.

Clips Per m² by Tile Size: 60×60, 12×24″, Plank & More
Standard formats use four corner positions per tile. When either edge exceeds 60cm, the calculator adds positions along long edges using max(4, ceil((width + height) ÷ 40cm)) clips per tile. This is a planning estimate; follow the selected system's placement drawing when it specifies a different density.

A 60×60 tile covers 0.36m², so one square meter holds 2.78 tiles. At four allocated positions per tile, the model gives ~11.1 clips per m². A 50m² project returns 556 clips, or six bags before project-specific contingency.
12×24 inch tiles (30×60 cm): ~22 clips per m²
12×24 inch is approximately 30×60cm: 5.56 tiles per m² × four allocated positions = ~22.2 clips per m². One 100-clip bag covers about 4.5m² at this planning rate.
Plank tiles 20×120: ~17 clips per m²
The disclosed formula gives ~16.7 clips per m² for 20×120cm planks, so a 100-clip bag covers about 6m². Confirm the long-edge positions against the selected system drawing.
