Private Label Tile Leveling Systems — Complete OEM Workflow for Distributors

By Peter Zhang · July 8, 2026

You can launch your own branded tile leveling product line in 15-25 days — starting with custom packaging that costs $200-500 and gives you 80% of the branding impact at 20% of the cost of full custom manufacturing. The most common mistake wholesale distributors make when approaching a China tile leveling system manufacturer for private label is jumping straight to custom molds before testing the market with custom packaging. Here is the complete workflow, from design brief to container loading.

3 Levels of Private Label — Start Small, Scale Up

Private labeling is not all-or-nothing. Most successful distributor brands start at Level 1, validate their market, then move up. Here is what each level actually involves, with real MOQ and cost data from our factory:

Level 1 — Custom Packaging Only (Easiest, Lowest Risk)

You keep our standard products — same clip geometry, same material, same colors — but the packaging carries your brand. This is the fastest path to market and the most common starting point for first-time private label buyers.

OptionMOQSetup CostLead Time
Printed plastic bag with your logo500 bags~$150-250 (printing plate)10-15 days
Retail-ready color box500 boxes~$300-500 (die-cut + printing)12-18 days
Header card (blister card)2,000 cards~$100-200 (printing only)10-15 days

What you get: Your brand on the shelf, your logo on the bag, your company name on every invoice. The product inside is identical to what we sell under the ZEBRA TOOLS brand — same TÜV-certified quality, same tile leveling clips and wedges. Only the packaging changes. This is how most distributors start.

Level 2 — Custom Color Products (Higher Brand Control)

You choose specific Pantone colors for your clips, wedges, spacers, or shims. This creates instant brand recognition — contractors see your color and know it's your product.

  • MOQ: 500 bags per color (vs 100 bags for standard white/black)
  • Lead time: 10-15 days (color change requires 30-45 minute machine purge)
  • Additional cost: Color masterbatch ~$100-300 per production run, depending on Pantone complexity
  • Consistency: We maintain batch-to-batch color records. Your orange from order #1 matches your orange from order #10.

Why the MOQ is higher: Changing color on an injection molding machine requires purging the barrel of the previous material — this wastes 2-5 kg of raw PP/PE and takes 30-45 minutes. The cost of that purge is amortized across the production run. At 100 bags, the per-bag cost is too high. At 500 bags, it becomes negligible. This is not a negotiation tactic — it's basic injection molding economics. Read our MOQ negotiation guide for the full explanation.

Level 3 — Custom Mold Development (Full Brand Ownership)

You design your own clip geometry, wedge shape, or spacer profile — unique to your brand, protected from competitors. The factory fabricates a dedicated injection mold based on your 3D design.

  • MOQ: 1,000-2,000 bags minimum (the mold investment must be recovered across production volume)
  • Lead time: 15-25 days (design review → CAD → mold fabrication → T1 sample → approval → production)
  • Mold cost: $2,000-8,000 depending on cavity count, complexity, and material (steel vs aluminum)
  • Mold ownership: You own the mold. We store it, maintain it, and use it exclusively for your orders. If you ever switch factories, we ship the mold to you.

When to do this: When you have proven market demand (500+ bags/month consistently) and need product differentiation beyond packaging and color. Most distributors should operate at Level 1 or 2 for 6-12 months before investing in custom tooling. Read our factory audit guide to understand mold fabrication quality standards.

The 6-Step Private Label Process — From Idea to Container

Step 1 — Send Your Design Brief

You provide: logo files (AI/PDF vector format preferred), target Pantone colors, packaging preferences, product selection, and target quantity. We respond with a detailed quote within 24 hours — including packaging cost, production timeline, and total landed cost estimate. If you have existing packaging from another supplier, we can match the specifications exactly.

Step 2 — Artwork & Sample Approval

We create digital mockups of your packaging artwork for your approval. For packaging-only projects (Level 1): we produce 2-3 physical samples showing your logo on bags/boxes — shipped to you within 3-5 days via DHL. For custom color projects (Level 2): we produce color swatches and 5-10 sample clips in your Pantone specification. You approve before production begins.

Step 3 — Production & Color Matching

Once samples are approved, production begins. Standard lead time is 10-15 days for custom packaging or color. During production, we verify color consistency using a spectrophotometer and maintain Pantone reference records for batch-to-batch matching on future orders. Our injection molding team has been doing custom color runs since 2019 — the color you approved on the sample is the color you get in production.

Step 4 — QC Inspection & Pre-Shipment Photos

Every private label order undergoes AQL 2.5 pre-shipment inspection at our factory QC lab. We check: packaging print quality, color consistency, dimensional accuracy (±0.1mm tolerance), break-force performance. You receive photos of your actual branded products on the pallet — with your logo visible — before releasing the 70% balance payment. No stock photos. Your products, your branding, your approval.

Step 5 — Packaging & Palletizing

Your branded products are packed, palletized, and shrink-wrapped. We photograph the finished pallets with shipping marks visible. Standard pallet configuration: 50-60 bags per pallet, 10-12 pallets per 20ft container. For retail-ready packaging (boxes/blister cards), we pack according to your retail display specifications.

Step 6 — Shipping & Documentation

FOB Ningbo is our standard term. We provide the complete documentation package: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, CE Declaration of Conformity, RoHS certificate. Your branded products clear customs under your importer name with your documentation. See our shipping & logistics page for transit times and container loading data.

3 Real Private Label Examples

Example 1 — Arabic/English Packaging for Saudi Distributor

A Riyadh-based distributor wanted bilingual packaging for tile leveling clips targeting the Saudi contractor market. Level 1 project: custom printed bags with Arabic front, English back. 500 bags, standard white clips (1.5mm and 2.0mm). Artwork approved in 3 days, production completed in 12 days. Total packaging cost: ~$250 for printing plates + bag production. The distributor now reorders every 6-8 weeks at 500 bags per order — the printed bag investment was recovered on order #1.

Example 2 — Retail Header Card for European Hardware Chain

A European hardware chain required retail-ready header cards for shelf display. Level 1 project: blister card with Euro slot hook, product photo, specs in 5 languages. 1,000 cards for reusable tile levelers. Artwork provided by the buyer's in-house design team. Production completed in 10 days. Card printing cost: ~$150. The chain now stocks the product in 40+ retail locations across Germany and the Netherlands.

Example 3 — Custom Mold for US Private Label Brand

A US-based tool brand wanted a unique clip geometry with their logo embossed into the plastic — no competitor could offer the same product. Level 3 project: custom 4-cavity steel mold, proprietary break-off design. 2,000 bag initial order. Timeline: 5 days design review, 15 days mold fabrication, 3 days T1 sample testing and approval, 7 days mass production = 30 days total. Mold cost: $4,500 (amortized across the first 2,000 bags = $2.25/bag). The brand now owns a unique product that no other distributor can source.
